PCP or phencyclidine which was earlier used as an anesthetic agent has now been replaced by newer drugs. But it still rules the cartel mechanism as it has potent stimulatory and hallucinogenic properties. It is used for the purpose of recreation especially in parties, etc. One of the characteristic effects which it produces is disassociation. By this effect, the person seems to lose contact with his body and the whole surroundings by blocking the action of glutamate on its receptor.

In the western countries, cigarette is dipped in the solution containing PCP, a process that is referred to as getting wet. The physiological effects depend on the dosage of the drug in the smoke. As PCP is smoked in a cigarette, it would reach blood immediately and can be detected in blood. The behavioral effects on the person vary and usually are unpredictable.

These effects are seen as long as the drug is present in blood. After this it is excreted in urine and can be detected effectively using the rapid drug testing kits. But only 10% of the drug is excreted in urine. So you need to have higher sensitivity for detecting this.

One of the major problem with PCP is that it has an adverse neuropsychiatric effect that leads the patient to the point of causing self inflicted injuries and even suicide. And when the dose goes very high, then the toxicity is too much that the person is disassociated from reality for months.

It can be done by means of saliva drug testing or urine drug testing per convenience. Most of them who test positive for PCP also tend to show up positive for nicotine. It is very important to detect this drug very earlier for only mild amounts are excreted in the urine.
